How to play music through soundcard (XP users) PDF Print E-mail

If you have a SigmaTel soundcard, Vmware Fusion or Parallels, there is no point in continuing. We have not found a way to get the SigmaTels to output audio directly from their soundcards

If you have a USB microphone or a USB webcam with a microphone built into it. Please read Steps A and B. If you do not have USB microphone or a USB webcam with a microphone built into it, jump to Step B now.

Step A:

1: Click on your Start button.

2: Select Control Panel

3: On the left side of your Control Panel, select Switch to Classic View

4: Select the Sound and Audio Devices icon.

5: On the new window that appears. Click on the tab that says Audio

6: Ensure that your soundcard (not your webcam or microphone) is selected for the Sound Recording Default Device. ALWAYS check this setting, Windows XP has a habit of resetting it everytime you restart your computer

7: Click on Apply

8: Click on the Voice tab

9: Ensure that your soundcard (not your webcam or microphone) is selected for the Voice Recording Default Device.

10: Click Apply then OK.

Step B:

1: Double left mouse click on the speaker icon by your clock so that the Play Control Window appears.

2: Click on Options then Properties

3: Make sure that your soundcard is selected as the "Mixer Device". If there is only one option there, you'll already be using the soundcard as the Mixer Device

4: Select "Recording"

5: You'll now have a few tick/check boxes at the bottom of the window. In most cases you want to only have "Stereo Mix" selected. However some soundcards are different, sometimes it's "Stereo Out" or "What u Hear" . Once that is done, Click on OK

6: You should now have a small volume control window for your soundcard with either "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear" or "Stereo Out". Make sure one of them are selected and put the slider to about 75% for that. If there are any sliders for "Mic" remove the tick/check.

7: Start ICUII (if ICUII was already running, you may have to restart it for the changes to take affect) and create a QM to someone. Change the Attachment Type to "Audio" and click on Record while music is plaiyng on your computer. Try talking while this happens, or coughing or something similar.. Press "Stop" then press "Play" and listen to what you recorded...

If you heard the music clearly and there was *no* recording of you talking, coughing, etc. You have set up your audio properly to play music from your soundcard...

If you heard nothing at all. Try repeating this tutorial again.

If you heard yourself talking, coughing, etc the audio is still coming through your microphone and you'll need to repeat the tutorial again.

If you want to go back to using your Mic as the default output, simply follow the instructions again so that Mic is selected instead of "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear" or "Stereo Out".

If you have any problems doing this, please contact your Soundcard manufacturer for assistance.

ICUII to ICu2

The powers that be at Cybration, Inc have decided to change ICUII to ICu2. Not sure when the change is going to happen. But we decided to be on the ball for a change and have setup a new site at www.icu2.ws to reflect this upcoming change. Please either click on the image below or here to visit the new site.

Please note that www.icuii.co.uk will stay up and running (and totally functional) until the transition to ICu2 is complete.

IMPORTANT

The information on this site (www.iCuii.co.uk) is for ICUII 8.0.6 and lower ONLY. If you are using ICUII 8.1 or higher, please use the information at www.icu2.ws
